Special Combat Situations
Not every fight happens on a flat map with clear sightlines and ordinary footing. Mounted battles, underwater encounters, cramped passages, falling, improvised hazards, and other unusual conditions all change how normal combat expectations behave.
The environment changes movement. Water, vertical climbs, unstable footing, or vehicles can alter how speed and positioning work.
The environment changes attack practicality. Some weapons, lines of sight, or spell effects become much better or much worse in unusual terrain.
The environment creates its own pressure. Falling, suffocation, slippery surfaces, fire, collapsing structures, and similar dangers mean the battlefield is dealing damage too.
Normal assumptions need a quick reread. If the fight is underwater, on a ship, or in tight aerial space, it is worth checking the exact rule before you improvise from memory.
Mounted Combat
Position, speed, and the mount’s vulnerability become part of every tactical choice.
Underwater Combat
Movement, perception, and weapon use may all function differently than in open air.
Falling & Hazards
The environment itself becomes a damaging force with its own rules and timing.
Tight Spaces
Chokepoints, ladders, and tunnels create reach and traffic problems that ordinary battlefield layouts avoid.
