What You May Not Claim
The license grants a lot, and it also draws lines. Here is what it does not let you say or assume, and what Wizards of the Coast asks of you in addition.
- No endorsement or official status (Section 2(a)(6))
Nothing in this Public License constitutes or may be construed as permission to assert or imply that You are, or that Your use of the Licensed Material is, connected with, or sponsored, endorsed, or granted official status by, the Licensor or others designated to receive attribution as provided in Section 3(a)(1)(A)(i).
- Trademarks are not licensed (Section 2(b)(2))

- No warranty (Section 5(a))
- The material is offered
AS-IS AND AS-AVAILABLE
and the license disclaims warranties ofACCURACY, OR THE PRESENCE OR ABSENCE OF ERRORS
. This site warrants nothing about its records' accuracy either. - No additional restrictions on recipients (Section 2(a)(5)(b))
- You may not impose terms that restrict what recipients can do with the licensed material. Read Section 2.
Wizards asks, in each edition's legal page, that you add no other attribution to Wizards beyond the supplied statement, and allows a “compatible with fifth edition” or “5E compatible” statement. The exact words, per edition:
- SRD 5.2.1: Please do not include any other attribution to Wizards or its parent or affiliates other than that provided above. You may, however, include a statement on your work indicating that it is "compatible with fifth edition" or "5E compatible."
- SRD 5.2: Please do not include any other attribution to Wizards or its parent or affiliates other than that provided above. You may, however, include a statement on your work indicating that it is "compatible with fifth edition" or "5E compatible."
- SRD 5.1: Please do not include any other attribution regarding Wizards other than that provided above. You may, however, include a statement on your work that it is "compatible with fifth edition" or "5E compatible."
Wizards' SRD page says The SRD and Creative Commons do not apply to the use of D&D content in streaming, fan art, cosplay, and other fan content; these are permitted as described in Wizards' Fan Content Policy.
Some classes, species and monsters are excluded from the SRD on brand identity protection
grounds, and the SRD page gives examples.
“D&D” brand elements and anything outside the SRD are outside this grant unless Wizards released them separately. Using the SRD does not make your work an official or affiliated product, and you should not suggest it is.
If you are unsure whether a phrase implies endorsement, ask a qualified attorney.
